Transportation Northwest (TransNow) is one of ten regional research centers of the National Transportation Centers Program (UTCP) and is directed by Prof. Nancy Nihan and housed in the Civil Engineering Department at the University of Washington.

TransNow is a research and educational organization representing Region 10, which includes the states of Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington. A Consortium of six universities from these four states cooperates in this coordinated research and educational effort. The universities include the University of Alaska Fairbanks, the University of Idaho, Oregon State University, Portland State University, Washington State University, and the University of Washington. The University of Washington is the lead university for this Consortium, and the Advanced Institute of Transportation Education established by TransNow resides here.

TransNow is interested in research and educational programs that fall under the TransNow theme of "Operations Management and Planning." Sub-areas under this theme include traffic operations, transit operations, and intermodal or other-modal operations. There are several research projects each year in the Transportation System Management and Demand Management area that are funded by TransNow and local sources. Several of the Washington State research efforts combine with FAME projects and receive joint funding from both TransNow and TRAC. TransNow provides both research assistantships and fellowships, which allow students to study these issues and become part of the research projects.

Each year, TransNow receives $1 million in federal funds from the USDOT, which must be matched by local sources. To date, proposals for research and educational programs submitted from Consortium universities have committed more than the annual requirement of $1 million in local match.
