Setting the Color Scheme for Black and White Sanborn TIFFs and grids: When loading Black and White grids [images] of the Sanborn maps, ArcView will default to a color ramp. Use the Image Legend Editor To convert the grid to grayscale. Follow these directions: 1. Double-click on the image layer. 2. In the Image Legend Editor, choose "Colormap". 3. In the Image Color Map screen, choose "Gray". 4. Scroll down to the "No Data" row and click on the symbol (it will be black). 5. In the Color Palette screen, click on the "X" for no color - this will eliminate the black border. Close the Color Palette screen. 6. Click "Apply" and close out the screens. Alternatively, use the Legend Editor to change the symbols for images that load in RGB color. Cells with the value of 1 or "no data" should be set to "X" for no color. Set the value of "0" as black. The image should now display properly in black and white.
