HISTORIC GIS DATA: Slavery, Citizenship & Civil Rights

The Slave and Free Colored data compiles U.S. census information for the period 1790 through 1860. The data show the distribution of the slave and free colored population by county. Other attribute data is also available (age, gender, slave-holding families). Other data and projects compile demographic information about the African-American community nationally (including shapefiles, MSExcel spreadsheets, and a Google Earth project).
