Dr. Elizabeth Kutza lost her seven year battle with cancer on June 9, 2006. She is remembered fondly as a dear colleague and friend. As a professor, Dr. Kutza had high expectations for her students. Her dedication to her students was evidenced by the fact that she chose to continue teaching until the very end of her illness. During her tenure at Portland State University, Dr. Kutza served in many capacities including: professor, dissertation/thesis committee member, and former Director of the Institute on Aging. On both a local and national level, Dr. Kutza actively participated in and served on boards of organizations dealing with aging related issues. In her personal life, Beth was a champion tennis player and an accomplished seamstress. She also enjoyed making candy and marzipan for family and friends. Whatever Beth did, she did it with class and excellence. Beth was always willing to help those around her even when she herself was in great pain. Those of us who had the great opportunity to work with her, to take her classes, and to be her friend have lost a true inspiration. We will miss her greatly!
